Personal Info

Dr. C Karen Covey Moore is the mother of three and the grandmother of five. In 1987 she earned her Masters of Divinity, and in 1998 her Doctor of Ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary.

Since Jesus Christ become real and central in Dr. Moore’s life in 1974, she has claimed as her life verse: "For me to live is Christ, and die is gain." Philippians 1:21. She has sought to live in faithful fulfillment of the calling as a wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, and now as an ordained minister of Jesus Christ in The United Methodist Church.

Dr. Moore was ordained Deacon in 1985 and Elder in 1989 and has served under pastoral appointment in the Peninsula-Delaware Conference since 1984. Her appointments have been in the Dover, Wilmington and Salisbury Districts and have included an appointment as Pediatric Chaplain at the Medical Center of Delaware, where she directed the development of the Volunteer Lay Chaplains program. She is currently serving the Wilmington District as the pastor of Peniel United Methodist Church in Newport, Delaware.

On the Conference and District levels she has served as the Chairperson of the Conference Board of Higher Education, where she was privileged to establish a Wesley Foundation at Salisbury State University in Salisbury, Maryland. Dr. Moore has enjoyed being the mentor for ten persons going through the Candidacy for Ordained Ministry and serving on the District Committee of Ordained Ministry. She has especially enjoyed teaching in the Lay Academies of the Salisbury, Dover and Wilmington Districts and providing teacher training for the South Carolina Conference Lay Academy. Currently, she serves as Clergy Advisor for Wilmington District Lay Speakers Committee, president of her Conference Wesley Seminary Graduates Association, and vice president of the Board of Directors of Delaware Ecumenical Agency.

A strong sense of the importance of the need for an informed and active laity in the Church and a love for our Wesleyan heritage were motivating factors in developing the course and study guide, Faith and Order: Exploring The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church. These same factors have lead her to be involved in The Confessing Movement within The United Methodist Church, serving as the Northeastern Jurisdictional Coordinator.
